Record Yazoo - Scrapper Blackwell

Music fills in all the empty spaces in my life, bouncing off the walls, taking up closet space, keeping my refrigerator stocked. I listen to music whenever I can and I have an insatiable thirst to hear new music. So I spend a good portion of my time trying to find that one piece of vinyl or track down a recording of a live show.

I've got a fondness, or perhaps an obsession, for vinyl records. I try to make it a regular thing to visit the local record stores. My latest interest focuses on the old blues of the 20's and 30's: Blind Willie McTell, Freddie Spruell, Blind Blake, Tampa Red, Lucille Bogan, Charlie Patton, Roosevelt Sykes, and Scrapper Blackwell, to name a few. I love that stuff.

I have a few guitars at home. I try to pick one up every day and play a bit. I'm no expert, but it's fun to play. Over the years I've recorded a couple of songs, feel free to have a listen. I still haven't mastered playing the guitar and singing at the same time. These recordings were made by recording one track at a time and then layering them together. The sound quality is pretty bad on some of these.

  • Scruffy - My most recent recording. I've been playing this song, in various forms, for a few years now. I finally decided to record it.
  • Red Sky - My tribute to the lovely voice and style of Tom Waits. Recorded with a cello, banjo, jaw harp, and some knee slapping.
  • Blues Waltz - Not really sure if this is technically a waltz. It's just something I liked and put together.
  • Hold On To Me - My first try at recording. I just made up the song as I went.
  • Slipping - Just some guitar tracks I liked putting together.
